To help you out, below is a list of frequently asked questions:
Opening hours
We are open from 7am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.
Do you come to my farm?
Yes we do – Our kill truck is on the road 2 days per week covering the greater Taranaki region.
As a general rule, we prefer to have at least 5-6 animals booked in your general area before our truck travels your way. Therefore, if you are booking in an animal, please allow at least two working weeks for us to be able to get to your farm.
Do you do pigs on the farm?
The short answer is no. We will pick your pig up alive from your farm. It will then be transported to where we then slaughter and then scold the pig with hot water.
Can sheep be killed on the farm?
Yes we can however, we require a minimum of 3 sheep before we do a run. Contact us if you would like to drop 1 or 2 sheep off.
Do you have EFTPOS?
Yes we do, we also accept cash or cheque. Alternatively, you can pay by internet banking the day before you come to pick up your meat.
How much meat will I get from my animal?
This is a common question and one that there is no straight forward answer to. The amount of meat off a beast once processed can vary a great deal due to the time of year and condition of the animal when slaughtered.
As a very general rule – a dead cow will weigh approx half that of the live weight and you will receive back between 60-70% in meat and bones.
How long until I get the meat back?
Your animal is hung for a minimum of 7 days, cut up that second week and normally ready to be picked up on the Friday. If you have a specific deadline or date in mind please let us know when you are booking it in. Please remember that we prefer to have at least 5-6 cows in your area before we will come to your area so please allow us at least 2 working weeks to avoid disapointment.
Pigs and sheep have different processing times depending on what you are wanting to have done so check with one of our friendly staff when booking in your animal.
Can I sell my meat?
No, it is against the law for you to sell your meat. MPI rules state that homekill meat can only be consumed by you as the animal’s owner, your family, your household, and any farm workers employed in an ongoing manner in the farm’s daily operations and their family and household.
Can you process goats, pigs or deer I have killed when hunting?
Yes – please give us a call first to let us know what you intend to bring in.
